I am writing this letter of recommendation on behalf of Fellner Construction. Joe Fellner served as the contractor for the construction of my new home on the Truckee River.
Joe's skill as a craftsman is extraordinary. From the planning stages through the execution of the contract, his attention to detail coupled with his ability to see the project holistically, helped to create an exceptional product. I, and the many tradesmen who followed, have been impressed by his organizational skills, precision, and attention to quality. Joe's conscientiousness has also been evidenced by his insistence on maintaining safe and orderly working conditions. The jobsite was swept and cleaned at the end of every day!
Interpersonally, I consider Joe a true gift. He has a generosity of spirit and an enthusiasm for his work that is unrivalled. My children and I were shoveling the snow out from around the foundation so that Joe could give us a bid on the framing. He immediately picked up a shovel and began helping. This gesture is typical of the extra effort that Joe routinely puts forth. He stepped in on many occasions and handled issues with sub-contractors that were beyond the scope of his contract. He offered me informed guidance, a sense of trust, and sometimes even emotional support. Joe is not only a competent craftsman, but a delightful human being.
In terms of the business aspect of our relationship, Joe and his wife Lavon were principled and fair. They handled the paperwork in a manner that inspired confidence, in that they balanced the requirements of the law with my interests and theirs. I felt that much confusion was avoided by both the written and verbal agreements. The Fellners are very good communicators.

Just thought I would drop you a short note. I want to tell you what a great job you did building our new deck. I am very pleased. It’s even better than Kitty and I expected or ever imagined it would be. I really think you took personal pride in doing it, as if it was for yourself.
It seems to me that a lot of so-called craftsmen today are only interested in getting the job done in the quickest, fastest way possible, so they can get paid and move on. I can tell you are interested in getting the job done right, and built to last a long time. You have a talent that should make you very successful in the future.

From the very start, your bidding process inspired our confidence in your experience and expertise. As we continued in the process, you always listened to our ideas and presented your own with candor and warmth. It was easy to defer to your knowledge in so many cases where ours was limited. Our working relationship was easy and friendly, honest and always timely. (This hasn't always been our experience in other projects). Since we were involved in the remodel from the long distance of Los Angeles, we so appreciated the frequent picture updates from LaVon and the phone calls and e-mails from both Joe and LaVon.
FINANCES AND IMPLEMENTATION
Your paper work process for financial accountability was very thorough and we feel your prices were imminently fair. Thanks Joe, for sharing some of the costs with us for some of the unexpected expenses that developed along the way.
AESTHETICS AND WORKMANSHIP
I suppose this is a more subjective area but we feel the workmanship that went into this remodel was first rate. We absolutely love the end result. You had to make many of the creative decisions yourself and we so appreciate your choices and the fact that you always kept our budget and our vision in mind. Your beautiful design and work in the main bathroom will remain a personal legacy of Fellner Construction.
TIMING
One of the biggest problems for remodeling projects is the extraordinary time it takes to get all of the experts in to do their part of the job. NOT THIS TIME. You were able to manage your outside subs very well and your daily attendance on site and firsthand involvement were the key factors. You projected a completion time which you met, considering, of course, all of the additional tasks we requested you take on. It ended up being a VERY different project than it started out at the beginning. We feel we have a whole new cabin as the changes impacted almost every room.
On a personal level, we so appreciate how kind, considerate and warm both of you are. You make a great team. We feel as if we have made two friends in Tahoe. We would be more than happy to recommend you to any future clients you might want to send our way. And we certainly intend to contact Ken Wittles to express our great satisfaction.
